Microsoft is working on Windows 10 base foldable devices

Microsoft is working on new Windows 10-based foldable devices

Foldable devices are in vogue this year. Recently, Chinese firm Royole introduced FlexPai foldable phone at CES 2019. Samsung is also expected to unveil a foldable-display phone-Galaxy Fold- ahead of MWC 2019. And now, the foldable-device fever has gripped Microsoft, which as per new reports, is working on a series of foldable devices that will be powered by its most successful operating system-- Windows 10.
According to a report by The Verge, the Remond, Washington based company has already started working on a version of Windows 10 that would work with the foldable devices. Besides this, the company is also investing heavily in developing foldable devices and dual-screen devices for both, Windows and its Surface series. Its efforts not only involve making its OS work on devices with foldable displays but also ensuring that many of its built-in apps are ready to work across an array of devices with foldable displays and dual screens.
What seems as a confirmation of Microsoft's plans is a tweet by BuildFeed, who has been tracking developments in Windows Build for a long time. Earlier this week, BuildFeed spotted a Build version of Windows 10 that is meant to support foldable screen devices, indicating that Microsoft is pursuing the project actively and aggressively.
Meanwhile, reports and patents have talked about Microsoft's plans of developing a foldable screen device for a long time. Microsoft has reportedly been working on its Project Andromeda, as it is being called, internally for almost two years. And last year, thanks to an internal leak, we got to see a glimpse of Microsoft's foldable screen Surface device for the first time. The leak detailed Andromeda as a pocketable device that would blur the lines between a smartphone and a personal computer.
Notably, foldable display devices have been in news for a long time and a number of tech companies are said to be working on bringing their own foldable-screen phones into the market. Besides Samsung, which is expected to showcase Samsung Galaxy Fold on February 20, Apple, Huawei and Oppo too are said to be working on their foldable devices. LG, on the other hand, patented three names-- LG Flex, LG Foldi and LG Duplex- last year indicating that the company could be inching releasing its own foldable-display device.
