All the 198 wards of Bangalore will get free wireless connectivity to reach the Internet in public places Deputy Chief Minister God announced on Sunday.
Speaking after launching the free Wi-Fi facility in Govindaraja Nagar Ward, DCM, which has the Bengaluru Development portfolio, said that government agencies are working on ways to facilitate Bangalore.
In Govindraj Nagar, where free Wi-Fi facility has been started on pilot basis, Reliance Jio is providing internet facility in radius of 3 km. Citizens can use public Wi-Fi by entering their phone number as a password.
A BBMP official said The City Corporation and the Department of Information Technology are talking to different service providers to prepare strategies for free Wi-Fi connectivity.
The ambitious plan to provide Wi-Fi connectivity in Bengaluru was in the backburner for a long time. Lack of clarity on rent for various types of telecommunications infrastructure has delayed public Internet service. Brüht Bengaluru Metropolitan Palakkesh was delaying the process of fixing rent for small telecom equipment, which is called Access Point.

According to the initial pan, citizens will have to use public Wi-Fi for the first 30 minutes. To use the service beyond the free minutes, they will have to pay the prescribed commercial rates to TRAI. When the project started, four companies expressed interest in providing public Wi-Fi hotspots.
